WEMBY in the other finals!

Wemby In the "other" finals.

Over the pond, another basketball championship is in progress. The French LNB Pro A finals, featuring the extraordinary talent Wembanyama, begin on Saturday when his Mets 92 play Monaco.

Despite the fact that Wembanyama will always be selected first in the NBA draft in 2023, he now has the chance to work on his game after Monaco forced him into his worst performance of the season back in April.

Even if you are unaware of it, you probably already know about the game. Do you recall when Wemby attempted a stepback 3-pointer before dunking his own miss? Really, how could you not? One of the best basketball moments of the year was experienced there:

The defensive tactics used by Monaco against Wembanyama may serve as a model for what he would likely encounter with the Spurs. Monaco employed NBA-style defensive tactics like zone, blitzing, and scram switching:

Several former NBA players, most notably Donatas Motiejunas and Mike James, who both spent considerable time in the league, are present in Monaco. They were the captain of a group that outperformed Wemby's 23-11 club by going 26-8 this year, the best record in the league.

Their versatility in playing multiple coverages, which was demonstrated in the second half against Wembanyama, contributed to their win.

Wemby was forced to make plays out of the short roll due to blitzing pick-and-rolls including him, as shown in the video above when he spins and throws the ball out to his colleague Bilal Coulibaly who misses a pull-up jumper.

Wembanyama must present the toughest test of his career for the Mets 92 after they dropped both of their meetings with Monaco during the regular season. After that, San Antonio is the next stop.
