According to a report from Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, draft expert Todd McShay has been laid off by ESPN. The 46-year-old McShay had been with the network since 2006 and was a prominent figure in their on-air draft coverage starting in 2009.
Over the years, ESPN had groomed McShay as a potential replacement for long-time draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. if Kiper were ever to leave the network. However, it now appears that Matt Miller will fill the role that McShay had previously occupied, serving as a short-term foil and a potential long-term successor to Kiper.
In addition to his draft analysis work, McShay also had a presence in college football games as a sideline reporter, but his primary focus was always on the NFL draft.
ESPN is reportedly making significant cuts and will be laying off around 20 on-air employees, with McShay being one of them. Other notable NFL analysts and hosts who have been let go include Suzy Kolber, Steve Young, Matt Hasselbeck, and Keyshawn Johnson.
This news comes as a surprise to many fans of McShay's draft analysis, as he has been a staple of ESPN's draft coverage for over a decade. It remains to be seen what his next move will be and where fans will be able to find his insights in the future.
What is next for him. Barstool Sports? McShay is childhood friends with Dave Portnoy. Maybe we can see him join barstool. We will have to wait.
